Coffee Break and Mall Jobs

My first jobs in high school were all retail positions, mostly at MetroCenter mall in Phoenix, Arizona. That mall was the hot spot in the 80s. It was like Fast Times at Ridgemont High. It was the Arizona equivalent of Sherman Oaks Galleria in the San Fernando Valley. Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure was filmed here (I was working in the food court, shelling out frozen yogurt. You want sprinkles on that?).

I digress.

The reason I bring this up is that until the late 80s, the mall retained it’s 1974 look and feel. In the 70s, the big thing was repeating words or characters in balloony fonts.

That’s the inspiration for this coffee design. I thought I’d bring a little 1974 into the Coffee Era.

If I worked in a mall now, I would probably be wearing something like this on a hat. Old farts would love it and my friends would think I was a dork.

Funny thing is…it looks fresh and new once again. Funny how that happens.

    Nice logo design.

What a cool site! I just found you through the comment you left on my blog, Work From Home Momma.

What I remember about the 70s is neon colors: lime green, hot pink, tangerine.

That and awful colors for major appliances (harvest gold and avocado).
