Discouraged?

With all the positive, you-can-do-this-too stuff I post here, you might get the idea that it’s easy for me.

I must be Mr. Confident. A perpetual self-motivating machine.

Nothing could be further from the truth.

I get discouraged. I have moments filled with life-sucking doubt in my abilities, goals, and relationships.

Right now is one of those moments.

Extremely discouraged I am.

Oh, I’ll survive. I’ll stop whining later tonight after dinner. Maybe.

Right now I’m going to wallow in my discouragement.

I’m working with clients, building an online illustration school, preparing a speech for Friday…

I should be on top of the world.

Sometimes, this is just really fucking hard.

I have days like that too. Glad to be reminded I’m not the only one.

Nothing wrong with that at all. They are very valid feelings. I’ve learned to acknowledge them and let them run their course. As Cedric says, it is comforting sometimes to know that others have them, too, no matter how talented and successful the person may be. Thanks for sharing.

Oh boy do I feel your pain! It seems like us sensitive artistic/creative types go through it more than others though. Or do we just *feel* it more acutely? ha ha My strategy is much the same as yours….wallow for a little while and wait for it to pass. Sometimes music will help (Lesley Gore’s Sunshine Lollipops and Rainbows! LOL) but usually I go for a small (non-damaging) amount of comfort food and some piece-of-fluff movie for a good wallow.

Just remember you’re good enough, you’re smart enough, and dog-gone it, people like you! :-)

Sorry, but this post made me smile. It sounds like my week, and I have an office job! Sometimes (or often) life is just hard, no matter how you approach it. At least you’re suffering for your baby. I feel more like a gun for hire. Working conditions are stressful but they pay the bills. But that’s why I read your blog, to get a view of how it *really* is on the other side. And for that, thank you. Hang in there!

I usually reply individually in comments, but this time I just want to say a huge thank you to all of you for chiming in with encouraging words.

It *does* help to know that I’m not alone. Huge help.

For years I’ve been schooled in the “never let ‘em see ya sweat” thing. After 30+ years, I’m convinced that the person who made up that stupid line was a roman gladiator, because other than that or for a lion tamer, I’m having trouble seeing how it can work.

I’ll probably start revealing more of my inner sanctum-type stuff on the blog now. I’m sure there are other people who could benefit from seeing me sweat now and then.
