botpreneur #5

botpreneur #6

This week’s comic is a more codified version of botpreneur #4, of which over 500 people have viewed through this site (plus the feeds I track) since July 1st. In fact, I got the biggest email response yet for the series. Something about peeking over people’s shoulders while they work…hmmm. On to something?

Hey, I’m just happy I’m not alone in my action-item disability.

Starting the series has also been a fantastic connection tool for me. I can honestly say it’s changed the way I run my design business. Soon after I started the series, I was contacted by the super nice people at WorkingPoint. They asked if they could run the comic on their site. They work with small business people, too. They didn’t need to ask since it’s under a Creative Commons license, but that’s why they’re super nice. Of course I said, “Sure.”

And of course I checked out the WorkingPoint software. I’m going to write a separate post about this. Long story short, I switched all my accounting and invoicing over to them. Soon, I’ll be switching my payroll to one of their partners. It’s that good.

So this week’s comic is a sort of repeat/redux – a cleaned-up version you can post, print & hang on your fridge, or even (gasp!) get on a t-shirt.* If you enjoy it, I’d love to hear from you. If you’re a small business entrepreneurial-type person, I’m already a huge fan. Thank you for letting me into your eyeballs for a few minutes.

*There’s a special version for the ladies, too.

Hi David, I've been enjoying your Botpreneur series and other blog posts so I'm happy for you that it has been so beneficial for you. You mentioned that it's changed how you run your design business, mind explaining how? I'm asking because I would like to use your story as a case study. Cheers and keep up the good work :)

      Hey David,

The main way it's changed how I run my business (so far) is through the
connection I made with the people at WorkingPoint. They just enjoyed the
comic and posted it on their site, so I checked out their service.

Excellent marketing, even if it was unintentional. Wait. Can you have
excellent unintentional marketing? I don't know. Somebody weigh in on this
      one, please. :)

I had this really scattered accounting system. A combination of Quickbooks,
spreadsheets, and Freshbooks. WorkingPoint lets me do it all in one place,
so I'm spending less time on that stuff. If they added time tracking and an
iPhone app I would be in small business heaven.

Thanks for the kind words. Makes it all worthwhile.

p.s. I'll get in touch via email re the case study.

Ok, going to check out WorkingPoint. Did you have to pull my leg!! :)

Just realized I also need the tax deductible twitter companion. Hmm. Does that mean I'm not a botpreneur? Please say no or I'll cry.

Of course not. You are a botpreneur. You exemplify botpreneur…ness.
