Paul Revere’s ride was a clandestine operation. Until he started yellin’ and wavin’ fire around, of course.
Another rough sketch from the book. I may post the finished art. I may not. I really can’t say at this juncture.
My name is David. Or Mr. Pants, if your prefer.
I create rockin' illustration for your unique situation.
Weird but nice.As in, “I’m going to pretend I didn’t just see a UFO outside my window.”
If you’re just joining me, I’d like to tell you about this excellent site for illustrators of all levels, called “Illustration Friday.” As you can imagine, every week there’s a new topic. Here’s how the IF people describe themselves:
Illustration Friday is a weekly creative outlet/participatory art exhibit for illustrators and artists of all skill levels. It was designed to challenge participants creatively. We believe that every person has a little creative bone in their body. Illustration Friday just gives a no-pressure, fun excuse to use it. No clients looking for a particular thing. No one judging the outcome of the work. It’s a chance to experiment and explore and play with visual art. So welcome, novices and pros alike.
If you’re a pro illustrator, doodler, or just like to express yourself creatively every once in a while (sometimes I use Post-Its), Illustration Friday is a cool thing to do. Even better, it’s free.
This guy is hoarding all the work.
In other news, I’ve also joined the gang over at Sugar Frosted Goodness. Yee-Haw!
Maybe I’m going overboard with my “play on words” idea, but in celebration of my new stream-of-consciousness approach to Illustration Friday, here’s my quick pen study on a Post-It:
This week’s Illustration Friday topic is “Seed.”

As in, I seed Jacob jump off the swings and go splat.
I decided to start doing my IF’s on Post-It notes. As much as I like doing finished pieces for IF, it’s lost some of it’s freshness for me because I’m trying too hard to come up with an “it” piece. This way, I can dash off the first thing that comes to mind in a silly ol’ sketch.
Maybe I’ll use it later, but for now it’s just fun to scribble on my yellow Post-Its.
One of the things I enjoy most about Illustration Friday is the ability to just mess around with my art. It’s been good a good excuse for me to explore, trying new looks and methods. Too often I’m so concerned with getting that consistent Sparky Firepants “look” for my portfolio.
Rightfully so, because it’s what clients expect and how I make my living, but those styles only came from messing about in the first place.
Well, that was fun.
Back to work! It’s such a grindstone, this whole drawing thing.
Heh.
