Testing children's books for lead? Why not just burn them all and start over?

I'm glad we have a government that watches out for things like contaminated peanut butter products and choking hazards in toys. I'm sure I've benefited somehow, so thanks, Congress.

However, I would like to see the U.S. Congress give a little more thought to creating new legislation than merely watching the Today show before session. Can we get just a little forethought in Washington? You're telling me that in the middle of an economic crisis Congress changed a policy that makes it worse? Did they just forget about that whole economy thing?

I mean, if Congress has really thought about the simplest, most logical solution, it would be to destroy all existing toys and books, and never allow anything to enter our country from China, ever.

Once again, they've played right into the media fear. We need a government that can stop the reactionary politics and think about all sides of an issue. It may be a slower process, but I'm willing to wait for the better solution.
